Dinner and Presentation - Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Abby Medcalf, MBA, PhD
The Pleasure Trap: The Biology Behind Motivation

The Westin - San Francisco Airport
1 Old Bayshore Highway, Millbrae, CA 94030 Telephone: (650) 692-3500

5:45 PM To 7:00 PM Registration - 6:15 PM - 8:30 PM Dinner and Presentation

The holy grail of leadership can be thought of in five words: “How do I motivate people?” There are certainly many theories at our disposal to help us learn techniques and strategies for motivating others. While so many of these tools have value, there is often an integral piece missing from the equation: biology. No matter how many approaches we have at our fingertips, unless we combine the science of biology with the science of psychology, we will never truly understand the core of motivation.

In this presentation, you will learn:

  • The key biological elements of motivation
  • Why this biology has a different impact for today’s managers and leaders than it did just five years ago
  • How to use these biological imperatives to your (and your clients’) advantage
  • How to position yourself for the highest motivation possible in your own life, so you can better access your personal goals

About Our Presenter: Abby Medcalf, MBA, PhD is self-employed as a coach and professional speaker. She has 15 years of experience working with middle and executive level managers and leaders, specializing in “problem” individuals who have presented at work with substance dependence issues or mental health concerns. While her client list is private, her public speaking takes her across the United States to present for such varied groups as the National Employee Assistance Program, Federal Pretrial Officers, New York City’s Mayor Office, the University of California at Berkeley, and Columbia University.
