Emily Williams, Corporate Trainer & Speaker, will be speaking about Coaching for Leadership in a Command Environment. First responders, military personnel, extreme athletes and others who operate in dangerous, high-stress environments must be able to accurately assess risk and life-threatening hazards. In crisis situations, increased adrenaline can quickly trigger confusion and panic. At times like this, leaders must exert authority and demonstrate conviction and decisiveness in order to direct followers to perform their duties effectively. To minimize the likelihood of injury or death, leaders must successfully exercise command. As part of this evening’s forum, Emily will share her insights into training managers in the art of leadership.
In 2005, Emily began working with the Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LAFD) Workforce Excellence Unit (WEU), when she was hand-picked by the Mayor to create and manage the department’s Human Relations Training Section. She also provided training for organizations including, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), the Junior League, London Metro Police/Scotland Yard, Right Management, and The Princeton Review.
In 2002, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) named her Instructor of the Year. She was the 2003 recipient of the Los Angeles County Inter-Agency Gang Task Force award for her role in collaborative peacekeeping efforts to reduce gang violence and hate crimes. In 2005, she was recognized as the UCLA Department of Public Policy’s Alumnus of the Year. She is also the 2008 recipient of YWCA of the Harbor Area’s Racial Justice Award.
